Wowza, has 2017 been a doozy! Since finding out I was pregnant, it has been a whirlwind, full of emotions and realizations. To say this has been a surprise would be quite the understatement.
After being healed of severe intestinal issues in 2015, I decided to get off of my birth control early 2016, after being on the medicine for almost 10 years. I had always suffered from severe acne and migraines, so the thought was to override the hormones and make them do what was deemed best. Now, without going into the very aggressive feelings I have about this as an adult, I had to deal with some of the long term effects that were attacking my body. Overall, I seemed super healthy, and after healing the intestinal issues, I definitely felt 100x better, but wanted to just honor my body from the inside out, which is why I decided to get off the medicine. Unfortunately, my poor body just didn’t know what to do without it, so I started seeing a natural holistic, woman focused doctor in fall 2016. After seeing some improvement through December, we were excited of my progress and I was able to feel and see the difference! How wonderful is the body when we allow it to be as it should! What we weren’t expecting was for me to make such a rapid recovery that I went from barren to pregnant in all about 4 months. HOLY SMOKING ROCKETS.
So when on February 18, as I was taking my very routine test, I saw a second line start to appear, there was a lot of denial and shock. My husband graduates from law school this May and we will be married 3 years in July, so this wasn’t exactly in our “right now” to do list, but we do feel incredibly blessed and are excited to meet our little bug, regardless of the scary feelings that we do experience (which I’m hoping is totally normal…!)
As I march into the second trimester, I have to say that I have had an amazing first trimester experience. Apart from being incredibly sick before I even found out I was pregnant, and then cracking my rib because I ended up getting so sick, I have had it pretty good. I have been super fortunate and morning sickness free. As long as I eat frequently (and I mean frequently y’all, like 10x a day frequently), I keep from getting light headed and it helps with the exhaustion. After letting my cracked rib heal, I was able to start working out again, but not to the level I’d like. I’ve been doing barre classes so I can easily modify for my injury and as it heals, will add back my regular workouts. So glad that since I worked out before, I can work out during, because that is my lifeline. I can tell differences though, it’s amazing how much your body reacts, even in the beginning. The workouts I normally did, are more taxing, there are strange pulls when you stand too fast, and you can get lightheaded just from simply sitting up. It’s all very insane! But it’s also insanely cool. It doesn’t always feel real, which sounds so stupid, but it’s the truth. So when something little happens that reminds you, it helps reassure you in what you’re feeling, especially in the beginning when you haven’t heard the little heart beat yet or don’t have the obvious bump.
All that to say, 2017 will be our craziest yet. We truly are so excited and feel beyond blessed to have this opportunity and just pray we can parent in the best way and be role models and leaders for the little bambino growing inside me. I announced on Easter Sunday and wanted to share some of the other beautiful images my gal @emilywhitener took, because I just think they are so adorable. For the announcement, I opted to go classic Obviously Elizabeth with an oversized white button down and my fave Stans, and got a mini sized pair to share our news. No matter boy or girl, this kid is going to be rockin some Stans and oh my goodness are they cute!!
To everyone who has congratulated us on social media after our announcement, thank you! We feel so loved and it really does make us more excited when everyone else is excited, too. Can’t wait to share this journey as we go! xoxo – elizabeth
